It's been a while since I introduced myself, and we have a TON of new families reading each, so it felt like a great time to say hello! I'm Melissa Basgall, Editor and Publisher of Macaroni KID Downtown - South Kansas City.
I also publish the following Macaroni KID editions:
Kansas City Kansas-Leavenworth
First, I want to thank you so much for your readership of Macaroni KID week after week. The opportunity to enrich the lives of Kansas City families is my "why", and every time you open our weekly newsletter or read an article, you're supporting a small, woman-owned business. I can't express to you how much it means to me that you're here. Here's a little about me and my family....
I was born and raised in south Olathe and spent a few years at Pitt State before deciding I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and took the leap to travel the world as an international flight attendant for United Airlines. I loved traveling and living on the East Coast, but after a few years, I started missing home.
When I moved back to KC I met my husband Garret within a few days of returning. We've been married for 10 years and together 14 (I can't believe it!) and reside in Basehor. We have a 7-year-old daughter, named Everly. We struggled with secondary infertility for 3 years and eventually decided we're meant to be a family of 3!
I work full-time as a volunteer services manager for a large not-for-profit hospice here in KC and I spend my days traveling back and forth from our 7 locations across the metro. I absolutely love working with hospice volunteers and wouldn't give it up for the world - they are angels on Earth, and it's an honor to work beside them every day.
I'm a Jill of many trades, a master of absolutely none. I dabble in just about everything — home decor, DIY, blogging, fashion, and cooking, and while chilling at home in the spring of 2020 I became an avid vegetable gardener. Favorite activities include sports spectating, walks with scenic views, audiobooks, traveling, trying new restaurants/food, musicals, fantasy football, and sitting poolside/lakeside/oceanside (basically near any aesthetically pleasing body of water), and of course, exploring our amazing city. Here are a couple of real-life photos of my family out having a blast in KC!
I also have a personal blog where I share more about myself and the day-to-day life of my family. I'd love for you to follow me at "Kansas City Family", on Instagram and/or Facebook.
Thanks again for being here - I'm so glad you're part of the Macaroni KID family!
With gratitude,
Melissa
