Experience an Enchanted Journey to Oz at Crown Center

Step into a whimsical world of fun “somewhere over the rainbow” with this family friendly exhibit

February 9, 2024

Ever since The Wizard of Oz movie premiered in 1939, it has captured the imaginations of children and adults with its magical world found “somewhere over the rainbow.” This month, Crown Center celebrates the classic film’s 85th anniversary with the Journey to Oz interactive exhibit that brings Oz’s colorful, whimsical world to life.

Families and children begin by entering the enchanting world of the Munchkins to meet up with Dorothy, Toto, and Glinda the Good Witch. Encounter the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, and then follow the Yellow Brick Road to Emerald City, all while keeping away from the Wicked Witch. Just remember, “There’s no place like home!”

The family-friendly exhibit features favorite parts of the film such as:

  • Emerald City
  • The Great and Powerful Oz
  • Wicked Witch of the West’s Castle
  • Flying Monkeys
  • Haunted Forest
  • Hot Air Balloon that might take you back home to Kansas

Journey to Oz provides an entertaining indoor play environment for kids’ imaginations to run free, especially during cold or rainy weather days. Cameras are welcome since there are plenty of great photo opportunities throughout the exhibit.

This exhibit will appeal to all fans of The Wizard of Oz. The interactive play area will be most entertaining for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary school children. Most visitors spend 30 minutes to 1 hour in the exhibit, but visitors are welcome to stay as long as they’d like. Admission is FREE.

The immersive Journey to Oz exhibit begins Saturday, Feb. 10, and runs through Sunday, May 5, 2024, in the Crown Center Showplace on Level 1 of the Crown Center Shops.

Exhibit hours are:

  • Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. (Closed Easter Sunday, March 31).
  • Sunday, February 11, noon to 4 p.m.
